ABOUT ME

It’s been my passion to bring yoga and mindfulness to youth since I took my first Children’s Yoga teacher training in 2016. I have been working with young children and youth professionally since 2011 as a Registered Early Childhood Educator in the Ottawa area. In 2018 I took my 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training. Since then I have been completing my further training in the 300 hour program with teaching Yoga and Mindfulness to children as my driving force. Yoga and mindfulness has become an integral part of who I am as an individual, a mother, and an educator and I love sharing the benefits with others.

In my spare time I love going on outdoor adventures with my two children, my husband and our dog. I read as many books as I can and, of course, I enjoy practicing yoga.

The idea to teach mindfulness to youth in the classroom grew out of the realization that a single 30 minute yoga class a couple times a year was not doing much to help children integrate mindfulness into their daily lives nor was it bringing meaningful connection between the children as well as with the educators and their class groups.

Educators and schools are constantly looking for ways to connect on a deeper level with the children in their classrooms. In todays’ post pandemic landscape this connection can mean so much for the mental health of youth in schools. POM’s mindfulness education courses not only teach mindfulness, breathing and mindful movement that the children can use at home to manage big feelings, it provides each class and their teacher time to come together and develop daily mindfulness rituals within the classroom.

Our program gives support to what we like to call the ‘school family’ by providing easy to use resources, in person and online tools and education as well as uninterrupted time together to find a way to bring mindful connection into the classroom.

Our hope is that once a mindfulness routine is developed within a classroom, it will stay there for years to come.

Educators also need their own mindfulness practice, teacher burnout is common, and it is incredibly difficult for teachers to support their students and be open to managing the big emotions that come from them when they themselves are not managing. POM provides half day mindfulness education courses to educators which includes access to exclusive online material, downloadable resources, research papers as they become available and more!
